We were entrusted with the complete renovation of this charming cottage, located near Charlbury, Oxfordshire in the heart of The Cotswolds. Our client brought the cottage as a commercial enterprise, and this had to be at the heart of every decision we made on the project.
The kitchen was sound, although an awkward island was removed, and flooring was replaced with traditional Cotswold stone. The kitchen was renovated and painted a deep red with new lighting installed, antique dining table and chairs sourced, and new storage and panelling designed to elevate the space.

Upstairs we re-configured the space to incorporate a free-standing bath into the master bedroom and added an extra bathroom to serve the second and third bedrooms.

The client’s brief for the scheme was to bring inside the earthy, warm colours and textures of the surrounding countryside. We used shades of olive greens and reds in the master bedroom where we wrapped wallpaper over the ceilings and walls to give this newly extended space character. Panelling was installed in a charming twin children’s bedroom where we added a shelf for toys and books. A golden oak leaf

wallpaper was used in the guest room and teamed with splashes of deep aubergine to create a welcoming and enveloping place to sleep.

In the reception rooms original beams were stripped and restored, window treatments with trims and layers of tartans and tweeds used, to create the cosiest of living spaces. Lighting was key in these spaces and was designed to add warmth, colour and pattern wherever possible.

We sourced everything in this cottage from furniture and furnishings to each individual picture and ornament, a lot of which we curated from antique fairs and second hand sites like eBay. We even ventured into the Cotswolds countryside and picked flowers which we pressed and put into glass frames as an installation in the cottage. This project was a true labour of love!
