This beautiful large, late Victorian townhouse is located in Peckham Rye, South East London and occupied by a vibrant young family. We were brought on board to make the home, they recently purchased, their own whilst making it suitable and practical for living with young children. We thoroughly explored the aesthetic they wanted to achieve and landed on a brief to create a light, bright, fun family home bringing joy and playful details into every corner.

The double reception was the one place they wished to prioritise as an adult space, one half largely taken up with a huge bespoke sofa and elegant lighting and the other being used as a library and space to play games and enjoy a drink in the evening. But even in these spaces the couple wanted the scheme to be colour infused, comfortable and for the style to be informal and unpretentious. Joinery was designed in these spaces to be practical and elegant but not imposing. 

The principal bedroom and ensuite bathroom took on a more muted colour palette to provide a restful environment and haven from busy family life. We installed panelling to create a focal point for the bed and it served to add a layer of interest in this large room. The ceiling was painted a soft green to create a cocooning feel to the home. 

The children’s bedroom was an area where we could have great fun. This room, designed for two little boys, was huge and cold in feel. We therefore introduced panelling to soften the space and break up expanses of wall to create a cosier feel. The high ceiling was papered in a bold stripe which serves to make the space feel cosier and injects a playful decorative feature.

Hallways, landings and powder rooms were designed with a view to connect each room harmoniously yet provide interesting nooks and quirky decorative schemes. Clever storage solutions are located throughout these spaces, from bespoke console tables to storage hidden in window seats and benches.
