This home belonged to a fun couple, whose children had flown the nest. They decided to downsize and take their new home in a different direction. They were really open to us helping them to decide which pieces to keep to work with their new space, blending old with new and giving previous pieces a new lease of life.

Their previous home was larger, older and more traditional, so our clients were keen to take a fresh approach with this home which had fewer period features and they felt should be more contemporary in feel.

We wanted a tight colour palette to ensure a strong sense of flow between the spaces (important when deciding on the interior design of a smaller home). We settled on an uplifting combination of blues, greens and shades of pink which we integrated to each area of the home. Wallpaper was integral to the schemes and, in the master bedroom, a bold William Morris wallpaper was teamed with contrasting striped and plain fabrics for a playful yet cohesive scheme.

Downstairs, the reception room was wrapped in textured wallpaper to give depth and warmth to the space which had previously felt cold and uninviting. A fireplace was clad in zellige tiles to give a sense of symmetry and focus to the space and upholstery in corals, greens and soft yellows were added which popped against the blue grey walls.

In the kitchen, which was a large but bland extension, we clad the walls in wide width panelling to add interest and character. We renovated the existing kitchen painting it a favourite raspberry pink and adding new handles as well as open shelving to display decorative items.
