After contemplating a rear side extension to house their kitchen – this young family called me to advise about what would be gained from this and whether or not to flip things round and put their kitchen in the difficult ‘back reception’ room. We began working with them to explore what this would look like (and cost) and took the decision to create a large kitchen dinner in the former front reception which made a lovely change for us (bucking the trend for costly steel work to gain a few feet at the back of the house).

Our brief (and challenge!) was come up with ways to ‘open up’ these reception spaces and bring in more natural light to these rooms and the hallway. The couple liked the idea of a glazed wall into this space and so we designed (and installed) a glazed screen and door which borrows light from both areas and has transformed the spaces. The idea was reflected in the glazed screen added above the sink.

The clients loved pattern and colour and were keen for us to bring a playful but coherent look to the interiors of their home. A mix of stripes, checks, and small scale prints were used throughout the home. The only exception being the master bedroom where textured wallpaper was used to create a serene space along with fabric lined wardrobes and an oversized headboard. For this project we designed a bespoke kitchen, window seat, banquette, drinks cabinet and wardrobes to create a tailored finish which was unique to the clients and how they lived.

We used rugs from our own collaboration with Bombay Sprout throughout this home as they provided the perfect blend of colour and fun with practical family living.
